Basset Hound (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Medium
Cooper was a stray who was attacked and mauled by other stray dogs. Good samaritans stopped their cars and broke up the fight, One of them took him to a near by animal hospital to get his wounds treated. After several weeks of no response to their flyers and ads they called HHBR. Our vets were able to finish treating his wounds and get him current on all vaccinations. We also had him neutered and treated for heartworms. The vet said Cooper is 4-5 years old; but he acts like a 2-3 year old basset -- lots of energy. Cooper has learned to use a doggie door, is crate trained and learning to play with toys and make friends with the other foster dogs. He is shy around dogs that show any sort of dominance or aggression. He rides well in the car and enjoys walks but does do a lot of pulling. Adopter must be willing to work with him on his manners and general obedience training, He has completed his first training course, but need continuing work. He has a lot of puppy in him still and can get very mouthy and nip and play rough with humans. We do not recommend him to be around children under the age of 12 because he plays so rough. He is very smart and knows exactly where treats and pet foods are kept in his foster home. He is most adept at getting into the storage containers for these items. He has learned to sit for a treat and will take it gently. Cooper has lots of energy and might be a good agility or flyball dog. A couch potato he is NOT. He is very busy and will need someone who is willing to commit the time and effort to taking him to training classes and working with him daily.
